Stand up! Resist! We won’t let democracy die like this! In August 2025, when Brian wrote this song, U.S. immigration police from different agencies were already turning American cities into battlegrounds. Now, after the atrocities unleashed on the people of Minneapolis, it seems almost too tame. We need to speak up. Only the people can stop a government drunk on its own power.

Sol y Canto Celebrates 30 Years!
Hard to believe, but Sol y Canto turns 30 years old this year! And it’s 40 years now that Rosi and Brian have been performing together. We started the band in the fall of 1994, so we still have several months to celebrate. Keep an eye on our Calendar of Events and join us at an upcoming show.
"En tu órbita" featured in the Tiny Desk newsletter!
After we submitted the video of our new single, “En tu órbita” to NPR’s Tiny Desk contest, we were amazed and pleased to see it included in the first Tiny Desk newsletter after submissions had ended. Ours was one of 8 videos featured out of 6,600 submissions! (That’s us in the bottom left corner.) You can see our entry and all the rest by clicking on the Tiny Desk banner above.
“En tu órbita” (In your orbit), was inspired by our friend Marie Jo Miera Smerechniak, from New Mexico, who left us last fall just shy of her 90th birthday. Not long ago we were at a gathering at her house, and our son Zia was sitting next to Marie Jo. Zia asked her if he could get her anything and she responded with her typical radiant smile, “No thanks, honey, I just want to be in your orbit.”
Written in collaboration with Argentine singer-songwriter Santiago Alonso, this is a love song. Not for one person, but for everyone we love. You can stream it or buy it here. We think you’ll love it. ❤️
